A Paris court has found guilty ten people for perpetrating the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the spouse of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
The those on trial faced accusations of disseminating untruths regarding her gender identity and sexual orientation, in addition to making malicious remarks about the couple's age disparity of 24 years.
The court handed down suspended prison sentences of as much as eight months to the defendants. The complete verdict has yet to be released.
A circulating conspiracy theory alleging that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has existed since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.
This recent ruling in France comes as the Macrons engaging in a defamation lawsuit in the United States of America against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has also voiced comparable unfounded claims about the Brigitte Macron's identity.
Their complaint contends that Owens ignored all credible evidence that refuted her assertions in favour of give a platform to established defamers.
Owens has often echoed these allegations on her digital program and social networks, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would bet her whole career on her conviction that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.
Brigitte Macron first met her future husband when she was a teacher at his lycée.
The two entered into matrimony in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
